Biography

Hamed Hamzehbahmani (SM’ 18) is an Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering in the Department of Engineering at Durham University. He received the BEng in electrical engineering in 2005 from Birjand University in Iran, MSc in electrical engineering in 2007 from IUST in Iran, and PhD degree in electrical engineering from Cardiff University, UK in 2014. Following his PhD he was appointed as a research associate at Cardiff University in the field of grounding systems for HVAC and HVDC networks in corporation with National Grid. He was later appointed as a lecturer in electrical engineering at Ulster University in the UK. He had also worked as a consultant engineer in HV substations and distribution networks, with engineering consultant companies. He has authored more than 30 papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences, and a written textbook on “Electric Circuit Theory”. His research interest is focussed on experimental study and analytical modelling of magnetic properties of electrical steel and magnetic materials under complex magnetising conditions, inter-laminar fault analysis and condition monitoring of magnetic cores, and new magnetic materials for future energy systems (renewable energy systems and variable speed drives). Additionally, he is regularly referee papers for different journals and conferences in the field of magnetics, electrical machines and electrical engineering.

Dr Hamzehbahmani is a senior member of IEEE, a member of the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement as an Associate Editor and an active member of UK magnetic society. He is also a member of North East Centre for Energy Materials (NECEM) and a member of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC).

Biography

Carlos G. Juan was born in Petrer, Spain, in 1991. He received the MSc degree in telecommunication engineering and the PhD degree in electronics engineering from Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), Spain, in 2014 and 2019, respectively, where he joined the Neuroengineering Biomedical (nBio) Research Gruop as a Research Fellow.

He was a Visiting Researcher with the Lab-STICC Group, Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), Brest, France, in 2016 and 2018. During 2019–2020 he was an Adjunct Professor with the Dept. of Materials Science, Optics and Electronic Technology, UMH. He held several Postdoctoral Research Fellowships with Lab-STICC, UBO, Brest, France (2020–2021), Medical Robotics Group, University of Málaga, Spain (2022) and Technical University of Cartagena, Spain (2023–2024). Since Sept. 2024 he is a “Ramón y Cajal” Senior Research Fellow with the Institute of Bioengineering, UMH. His main research interests include microwave engineering, antenna and propagation, instrumentation electronics and sensors applied to bioengineering.

Dr. Juan was a recipient of the CEA-Springer Award to the Best PhD Thesis in Bioengineering 2020, the Santander Bank Young Researchers Award 2022, the Extraordinary Ph.D. Award 2022, or the IEEE Trans. Instrum. Meas. Outstanding Associate Editor Award 2023, among other awards and distinctions. He authored the book Glucose Concentration Detection in Aqueous and Biological Solutions with Microwave Sensors: An Approach towards Non-invasive Glucose Sensing (Springer, 2021). He served as an Associate Technical Program Committee Chair at the IEEE Int. Instrum. Meas. Technol. Conf. (I2MTC) 2024. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Trans. Instrum. Meas.
